Annuals & Perennials
-
Cindy Gilberg of Shaw Nature Preserve will be the guest instructor for this class and she will share ideas in using Annuals to brighten the landscape with abundant and complimentary amounts of color or add interest to beds, borders, pots or containers. After this session, you will be able to properly select annuals for site and climatic conditions. Find out which annuals work best as cut flowers or work best in rock gardens, window boxes, or hanging baskets. Perennials are a large group of garden plants with roots that persist from year to year. Stems and leaves of some may remain, but in most, the tops die back to the soil each winter. How, where, and when to plant as well as how to maintain perennials will be explored. 3 Contact Hours .3 CEU's

Container Garden & Worm Farm
-
Have you envied your neighbor's beautiful containers, overflowing with perfectly coordinated, healthy, ever-blooming flowers? Learn the basics from Bunnie Gronborg of the Jefferson County Master Gardeners and discover how to achieve striking effects. Truthfully, you CAN have a beautiful container garden in sun or shade. The class will include potting basics, and a demonstration. Also this session, Kara Dunnam of Jefferson County Recycling will discuss vermin-composting. Vermi is the Latin word for worm. US Migration Patterns:Pre 1860
-
Have you ever wondered why your ancestors wandered? In this course we will review the settlement of the East Coast and the movement of the early settlers. Then we will explore the development of roadways--some built by the pioneers and some by military companies. The rivers and roads connected settlements west of the Appalachians back to the ports on the East Coast. Explore the routes and see if your ancestors followed one of these migration patterns from the East Coast to the Mid-West. 2.5 Contact Hours .25 CEU's

The most useful and most used of all the Federal Schedules is the U.S. Census collection. Beginning in 1790 through the soon-to-be-released 1940 Census Schedule, a Federal Census has been taken every ten years. Learn the "Go-To" columns for each decadel year. Explore the Farm Schedule to see if the family owned milch cows. (milch is the old-fashioned spelling of Milk and that's how it appears on the census.) Investigate the Dependents Schedule or the 1890 Supplemental Schedule for more on your ancestors. These and more Federal Schedules await your visit. 2.0 Contact Hours .2 CEU's

Scuba Certification
-
The scuba certification course teaches students the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to dive with a buddy, independent of professional supervision. The scope of this course consists of knowledge development, confined water skill development, and open water skill development. Upon completion of the required knowledge development and mastery of the necessary water skills, the student will become a scuba certified PADI Open Water Diver. If the student responds (yes) to any item on the statement, a physician must approve the student for diving by signing the medical form before the student can participate in any in-water training activity. The student must also sign the standard safe diving practice statement of understanding. Prerequisites: All students enrolled in this course must: *Be 15 years old. * Be able to pass a swim skills test and a swim/float test. Field Trip: Satisfactory completion of all open water sessions is required for certification. Students are responsible for their own transportation to the Open Water dive sites. Open Water Exam:
